Eye surgery is among the specialties that demand the highest precision from an instrument: the field is small, the tissue is thin and a tenth of a millimetre at the tip shows in the result. The sets on this page are grouped by procedure: Pterygium, Strabismus, Glaucoma, Eye Emergency and Cataract.
Tips on ophthalmic micro instruments are finished under a microscope. The instruments are stainless steel, autoclave compatible and covered for five years against workmanship defects, material faults and corrosion.

What really decides the life of ophthalmic instruments is not use but handling and cleaning. If cataract and strabismus instrument tips sit loose in a sterilisation basket they touch and bend; the bend is invisible to the eye but spoils the cutting angle under the microscope. Carrying tips with silicone protectors or in a compartmented basket keeps the instrument behaving as it did on day one.
In ultrasonic cleaning it matters that instruments are not stacked. Where surfaces touch, cavitation is reduced, residue stays behind and shows as a stain in the next cycle. Laid out in a single layer with tips not facing each other, micro instruments clean better and wear less.
