In cardiovascular surgery the vessel wall must be held without being damaged, so clamp jaw pressure and tooth pattern are designed differently from instruments in other specialties. The Cardiovascular Set on this page is composed with bypass and vascular procedures in mind.
Tip alignment is critical on micro needle holders and fine instruments. They are made of stainless steel, autoclave compatible and carry a five year warranty.
Set contents can be arranged around the technique in use. Click the set image for the detailed list.
On vascular clamps the jaw surface is the most critical area. When the clamp closes, pressure should spread evenly along the jaw rather than concentrating at the tip, otherwise the vessel wall is crushed. Wear on the jaw pattern may not be visible to the eye, so clamps should be checked at intervals.
On micro needle holders the issue shows in how the jaw grips the needle. If a fine needle rotates, the jaw face has flattened and the suture line suffers. These instruments can be repaired, though it is worth testing needle grip again on the first use afterwards. Choosing a needle holder matched to the needle gauge reduces the problem from the start.
